Actua poses a challenge to reduce waiting times in shopping stores

The opening of Andorra’s shopping stores and other economic activities, and the restrictions due to the current context of Health crisis, demands some new adaptations to solve waiting times and epidemiological risks. In this regard, Actua is working to reduce the unnecessary concentration of people in a same space and proposes to those who might be interested (companies, people…) to think of possible management solutions.

The Secretary of State for Economic Diversification and Innovation, Marc Galabert,  highlighted that “the aim of the challenge is to offer the country’s population and the tourists who visit us information about the number of people waiting outside any commercial store (including pharmacies and other services of interest) in order to minimise the possibility of congestion”. He also stated that “with this information, people can decide about the best time to go, minimizing contact and optimizing the resources of the establishment”.

The Actua Innovació’s director, Marc Pons, emphasized that “we are committed to innovation methodologies and processes that may offer value to citizens, companies and institutions in Andorra. We are looking for a continuous adaptation to reality and we think that the model of Open innovation is the best way to solve the challenges we are facing, with the participation of the different actors in our society and with the will to find solutions to evolve and grow”.

The challenge is organized as a competition between teams, open to all types of companies, individuals, and groups in Andorra, and will last a total of 21 days divided into two phases.
In general, the solutions should meet the following requirements:

Solutions based on products: those proposals that solve the problem from a product that already exists will be eligible, but they must incorporate sufficient changes and adjustments to configure an innovative solution adapted to the challenge.
Stable solutions: these solutions must be able to be tested by a jury and, eventually, be used and tested in a pilot project.
Integral commercial solutions already mature will not be accepted.

A jury will make a pre-selection of the teams that will have to prepare, among other requirements, a basic prototype of the solution and the functioning model. The winner will receive a prize of 3,000 euros and a pilot in one of the commercial stores may be implemented.
