The first international conference on health and wellness in the Portuguese region of Algarve was held on 15, 16 and 17 October, and the Actua Program has participated as a special guest.
During the celebration of the event representatives of the Actua Program presented Andorra as a health and wellness tourism destination and have exhibited the investment opportunities offered by the health sector.
The international conference was attended by speakers from various countries. They stressed different issues such as the need for quality health tourism considering the benefits of the new technologies. The speakers also stressed the aging population as a key factor to consider in the creation of new business models.
The general manager of the English publishing Intuition Communication, with magazines such as the International Medical Travel Journal and Keith Pollard, stressed the diversity of services that can be offered to the so-called Silver economy such as tailored technological developments, intelligent houses and research by universities focused on seniors.
Also, the renowned heart surgeon, Dr. Felix Unger, currently president of the European Academy of Sciences and Arts, questionned about the proliferation of health tourism: “Are we facing a new medical specialty or is it merely a new tourism attraction?”
Finally, the expert in country branding Ilan Geva stressed the need to convey the same message from all actors involved in the health tourism sector to create a country brand.
