The Minister of Land Department, Jordi Torres, presented on Monday, April, 9th, the road safety campaign, “Andorra, cycling territory”, aimed at cyclists. The presentation was attended by cyclist Joaquim “Purito” Rodríguez, the image of this campaign, which is launched from l’Àrea de Mobilitat. The minister and the cyclist highlighted the main objectives, which are: to raise cyclists’ awareness of the road and traffic dangers, to promote respect and coexistence among all road users, and to make Andorra a reference for cycling safety.
Among the main changes to be made in the current legislation: wearing of helmets on inter-urban journeys, the requirement that vehicles respect the minimum distance of one and a half metres when overtaking cyclists, the authorisation for cyclists to ride in parallel, and the recommendation to subscribe a personal accident insurance and a licence.
Joaquim Rodríguez stressed that in Andorra, drivers are very respectful towards cyclists, as evidenced by the fact that the country attracts many foreign cyclists.
