The director of Andorra Telecom, Jordi Nadal, and the deputy director of the Fire Department, Jordi Farré, presented on Monday, October 9th, the Lifeseeker tool, a system designed to search for missing persons that allows to detect mobile phones, identify them and determine their position, providing a direct communication channel with the person. The device is mainly installed in helicopters, which allows a fast and efficient search in mountainous areas or regions of difficult access.

Lifeseeker, is already a reality and has Actua’s support. It converts the mobile phone into an emergency locator beacon, capable of guiding rescue teams to the exact location and is capable of locating a missing person’s mobile device. It also offers short message services even in areas where there is no mobile coverage. In this way, it provides rescue teams with a direct channel of communication with the victim, offering the possibility of having information on the state or any other data that may facilitate evacuation.

The Fire brigade’s deputy director pointed out that this tool represents a qualitative leap in rescue operations. “Not only does it allow for rapid location and contact with the lost or injured person, but it also enables to carry out missions at very difficult times, such as poor visibility conditions due to fog or in night flights. Jordi Farré was very grateful for the Andorra Telecom’s collaboration, that “has allowed us to incorporate cutting-edge technology”.

Andorra Telecom’s director expressed his satisfaction at the company’s participation in a project that “provides new advances in telecommunications and the widespread use of mobile telephony to citizen’s safety purposes, a policy that fits perfectly with our action of public responsibility “.

“Mountains are one of Andorra’s greatest heritages. It is a pleasure for us to be able to do our bit to ensure that our citizens and visitors enjoy them with the maximum guarantees, “he said. Nadal recalled the company’s commitment to security, using as an example the TETRA network, the digital mobile radio system that connects all security and emergency services in the country, under Andorra Telecom’s management.

The acquisition and implementation of the tool is the result of a partnership between Andorra Telecom and Centum, Lifeseeker’s developer and marketer. This agreement allows the telecommunications company to have this technology at a very competitive price and, in return, it becomes what is called an Early Adopter to contribute to the evolution of equipment technology to improve its operations and results. For practical purposes, it involves participating in the testing of the new versions through the test platform, collaborating technically and allowing the demonstration of the solution to any client interested in its further application.
