For the first time Andorra, more specifically the Lauredian resort of Naturlandia, will be the stage for the World Triathlon Winter Championships, a world triathlon winter competition celebrated between the 19th and 21st of March. It was presented, on the 4th of March, in Sant Julià by the Minister for Presidency, Economy and Enterprise, Jordi Gallardo, the Mayor of Sant Julià de Lòria, Josep Majoral, and the regional director for IRONMAN in Southern Europe, Agustí Pérez.
Over 170 athletes from 16 countries will take part in the competition, accompanied by their technical teams, who will arrive in the Principality to compete in this triathlon that consists in running races, mountain-bike and cross-country skiing in both individual and team modalities.
Gallardo stated that “this new international event in our calendar re-enforces Andorra as one of the best options to celebrate events of the highest global quality. We are very grateful to the International Triathlon Union for choosing our country to host these winter world championships as well as to all the organization”.
The minister also recalled “despite the inconveniences related to the COVID19 pandemic, Andorra is ready to offer the highest health safety levels to guarantee a secure World Championship through an intensive strategy of tests and various protocols, such as mass testing, endorsed by the health authorities”.
As for the calculated economic impact, based on estimates made thanks to data provided by Ironman, we expect a return of 232.500 euros.
In the presentation the director of the World Championship of Winter Triathlons and of the Andorra Multisport Festival, Gerard Riart, also participated.
