Andorra, more specifically the Naturland resort, will host for the World Triathlon Winter Championshipsfor the second straight year, a championship of winter triathlons that will be held on the 5th and 6th of February in Sant Julià de Lòria recently announced by the World Triathlon. The Andorran candidacy was selected for the second consecutive year from an ample list of proposals which included China, Rumania or Italy among others. The race will be held within the framework of the Andorra Multisport Festival organized by the Ironman group.
The world´s top athletes in this discipline will once again be taking part in the competition, arriving in the Principality to compete in a triathlon that combines running, MTB and cross-country skiing in both individual and team modalities.
The organization anticipates the arrival of around 500 participants in Andorra, although the event is estimated to attract around 1500 people to the country including accompanying parties, delegations from different National teams, as well as members of the International federation.
The Minister for Presidency, Economy and Enterprise of the Andorran Government, Jordi Gallardo, stated that “once again Andorra will host an event of the highest level and this consolidates the country as one of the best sports destinations for the practice of both summer and winter sports”. Gallardo recalled that “last year´s organization, although having had to face an extremely adverse situation generated by Covid19, was excellent and we managed to be one of the first countries in organizing an international competition. The effort made by the professionals in the Comú of Sant Julià and Naturland and of all the organization, are again receiving their deserved recognition today”.
Furthermore, the Mayor of Sant Julià de Lòria, Josep Majoral, manifested that “to host this event for a second year confirms that Naturland is not only a tourist attraction that completes the national offer, but also an ideal location to hold high level international sports competitions”.
The mayor also remarked that in addition, “it allows us to continue with our engagement in boosting the parishes economy through the hosting of all types of events”.
In this sense, the regional director for IRONMAN South EMEA, Agustí Perez, explained “hosting the world championship for the second straight year, is clear recognition of the task achieved in the first edition, which was marked by Covid19 restrictions and turned out to be an organizational success. We are very grateful for the possibility to organize a race of the highest world level again and we continue to strengthen the Andorra Multisport Festival”.
