The head of the Energy and Climate Change Office, Carles Miquel, and the OBSA’s director, Marc Pons, presented this computer application that provides information about the radiation received by the country’s roofs, and generates a series of indicators in relation to the benefits and the energetic, economic and environmental interest of this use. Carles Miquel stressed the solar radiation received by the country highly exceeds the national energy demand. The use of the radiation received by the buildings’ roofs would generate 255 GWh per year of electricity, added to the 100 GWh / year that Andorra already produces with the hydraulic exploitation and the energy recovery from waste.
The head of the Energy and Climate Change Office highlighted the thermal utilization of this radiation would cover the thermal needs of hot water. The installation of solar panels can benefit from the RENOVA subsidy program and the program for the promotion of photovoltaic electrical energy’s production, offered by the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture and Sustainability.
The OBSA’s director, Marc Pons, explained that the development of this computer application wants to form and contribute to the transition to the new energy model for which the country is betting. Pons pointed out that currently, the application only contemplates the roofs of buildings in 4 parishes: Andorra la Vella, Escaldes-Engordany, Ordino and Sant Julià de Lòria. Those locations concentrate the largest population in the country. According to Pons, the will is to cover the rest of parishes at the end of the year or beginning of 2018, based on their land registries.
