Global healthcare company Grifols and the Government have agreed not to continue with the project to establish an immunology research center in the parish of Ordino. The mutual agreement to terminate the project, which did not involve any associated economic costs for the Government, allows Andorra Development and Investment (ADI) to recover the plot of land in Ordino where the research center was planned to be built so that it can later be returned to the Government.
Grifols has stated that it will continue advancing its scientific work in immunology through its existing interconnected network of 13 global research centers located in North American and European hubs. However, the company remains interested in pursuing future projects in Andorra.
The Minister of the Presidency, Economy, Labor, and Housing, Conxita Marsol, stated, “While the Government regrets losing this opportunity and not being able to move forward with the immunology research center — and we thank Grifols for their collaboration during this time — Andorra remains committed to further diversifying our economy in priority sectors linked to innovation and biotechnology.”
Both the Government and Grifols have left the door open to future collaborations in healthcare. In fact, the Government highlighted the positive collaboration initiated during the pandemic when Grifols facilitated tests for the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
“Grifols would like to thank the Andorran Government and all the people who supported the project for their outstanding commitment to innovation and science,” said Grifols’ Director of Industrial Services, Daniel Fleta.
