Fifty students from the master’s degree “Energy for Smart Cities”, led by Innoenergy, worked during the past week on different challenges posed by Actua, FEDA, Andorra Telecom, OBSA, the Ministry of the Environment and the Secretary of State for Citizen Participation. The students, coming from different countries and cultures, arrived after several months studying the characteristics of the country.
The Minister of Presidency, Economy and Business, Jordi Gallardo, welcomed the students and highlighted “Andorra has the potential to become an ‘open living lab’ where researchers, entrepreneurs, citizens and the public administration can meet in a data-based environment to test ideas and develop innovative solutions”. In this sense, Gallardo recalled that “Actua Innovació, through collaborations with other international entities such as the European Institute of Innovation and Technology, works to present the Principality as an ‘innovation friendly’ territory, where young talent can propose innovative solutions to the different challenges of future smart cities”.
The Actua Innovació’s director, Marc Pons, presented several projects that are being promoted from Andorra.
Actua recently signed an agreement with Innoenergy, an entity specialized in innovation projects applied to energy for intelligent cities. It is a member of the EIT (European Institute of Technology & Innovation) and works with prestigious universities and ecosystems such as Barcelona, Stockholm and Grenoble, among others. The agreement responds to the mutual will to promote young talent and work dynamics, with a high degree of innovation, and providing answers to the future challenges of intelligent cities (Smart Cities).
On Thursday, students prepared their presentations to respond to the challenges posed by Andorran entities. Their solutions had to be innovative, achievable and with market potential. Both Actua and Innoenergy wish to encourage the creation of potential innovative Start-ups. During the competition on Friday, each group had three minutes to present their projects which will be developed for further Innovative weeks to be held in Antwerp and Amsterdam, next year.
