This year marks the Congress’s 20th anniversary. It will be entitled “Shaping the future of hospitality in mountain destinations”. The event is hold every two years and each edition is organized in a different parish.
It is an initiative organized by the seven Comuns (City Councils) and the Government of Andorra, together with the World Tourism Organization, with the aim of constituting a permanent forum for debate on the development and sustainability of tourism in mountain areas.
During the presentation ceremony, the Minister of Tourism Francesc Camp, highlighted the evolution of policies in the tourism sector in Andorra over the last 20 years. The minister explained that after years of working for the growth of the sector, “we now have to opt for strategies focused on quality, with a more sustainable management without losing competitiveness”. Escaldes-Engordany’s cònsol major, Trini Marín, invited visitors to discover the cultural, natural and commercial tourist attractions the parish has to offer to its visitors.
The UNWTO Secretary General, Zurab Pololikashvili, highlighted the importance of tourism in Andorra, referring to the more than eight million visitors who came to the Principality last year. He also highlighted the work carried out by the UNWTO’s Themis Foundation based in Andorra, and called on the Government to continue working on the organization of this congress, hoping at the same time that it will be a success.
On Friday 23rd March, a technical conference will include a visit to Actua’s Innovation Space and various leisure activities.
