The start of flights to Madrid was the focal point of meetings between Gallardo and the Economic Council for the Community of Madrid, with representatives from over 40 companies and main financial journalists

The Minister for Presidency, Economy and Enterprise, Jordi Gallardo, met this midday with the Economic, Tax and Labour Councillor for the Community of Madrid, Javier Fernández Lasketty. During the Meeting various topics of bilateral interest were touched upon such as the starting of flights between the Andorra-la Seu d’Urgell airport and Madrid, that will have regular flights on Fridays and Sundays beginning on December 17th.

Gallardo highlighted that “it was a good opportunity to share the moment of economic diversification Andorra is undergoing and the challenges we have set ourselves as a Government. The air connection we are establishing brings Andorra and Madrid closer together and it is extremely important to promote knowledge of its existence on both tourism and business levels. The reception by Madrid´s authorities could not have been more positive”.

In addition, Fernández Lasketty, declared that “we celebrate that there are finally direct flights between Andorra and Madrid, which will serve as a new, faster route not only for tourism but also business. It is very positive for Madrid, and we even wondered how it was possible that this air connection had not already been established with Madrid and the rest of the world”. He also added that another of the main topics had been “economic opportunities and how we can aid Andorran and Spanish companies in increasing economic exchanges and mutually invest in both countries”.

Work on organizing business exchange conventions between the two regions has also begun. Lasketty pointed out that “Madrid attracts 76% of foreign investment in Spain and in parallel many Madrid companies invest abroad. I am convinced that though these actions there will be a significant increase in companies finding opportunities in both countries”. The Andorran Ambassador to the Kingdom of Spain, Vicenç Mateu, also took part in the meeting.
