The PHYRENE project

PHYRENE is a European project of the Interreg POCTEFA programme that aims to ‘Develop the cross-border hydrogen value chain in the Pyrenees’.

Its priority is to create a common area of knowledge, digital transformation and sustainable growth in the Pyrenees region, and to develop and improve capacities for research, innovation and the adoption of the most advanced technologies.

POCTEFA-PHYRENE

The purpose of POCTEFA is to strengthen the economic and social integration of the Spain-France-Andorra border area. Its focus is on the development of economic, social and environmental activities at cross-border level through joint strategies in favour of sustainable territorial development.

The PHYRENE project aims to develop the renewable hydrogen value chain on a cross-border scale and to achieve this, it identifies companies, universities and institutions linked to the energy transition in the Pyrenees territory, favouring business and research synergies between them.

The versatility of hydrogen as an energy vector and its potential application in sectors such as industry, transport, electricity or construction has generated interest in many territories, illustrating a field of opportunities in the economic, social and environmental fields, and within the framework of Pyrenean inter-regional cooperation. The deployment of the planned actions will serve to position the Pyrenees as a European reference in this sector.

The results of PHYRENE will enable the strategic and operational bases to be laid for the development of a renewable hydrogen economy and to improve the productive fabric and the innovation and research ecosystem. Joining public administrations and organisations, with the private sector will ultimately benefit civil society in general.

The PHYRENE project will run from January 1st, 2024, to December 31st, 2026.

A consortium, led by the Working Community of the Pyrenees (CTP) and formed by the Basque Energy Agency (EVE), the Government of Navarre, the Aragon Hydrogen Foundation, the Agency for the Companies’ Competitiveness (ACCIÓ), the Regional Council of Occitanie, the Regional Council of New Aquitaine and Andorra Business

We decided to open the clinic in Andorra because many of the Moto GP and Superbike riders that we advise live here, such as Fabio Quartararo and Pol Espargaró. Also because there are quite a few elite athletes living in the country. Andorra Business helped us for the launching of the business by providing us information on how to set up the company in the Principality.
